The WHARTON ISD Board of Trustees on June 25 voted to accept a supplemental grant award from the Texas Division of Emergency Management to fund generators for each district campus. WISD Project Manager Mike Lanier told the board the award follows an earlier denial about four years ago; the current supplemental award does not cover all costs and leaves the district responsible for an estimated 25% of implementation costs.
Lanier outlined the ordering and reimbursement process the district will follow after equipment is ordered and installed. Garland Novosad moved to accept the TDEM grant and Lisa Morton-Perez seconded; the motion passed unanimously, 7–0, with individual board votes recorded in the minutes.
