Construction delays leave some Weslaco teams limiting drills; board told underground utilities caused hold‑ups

Athletics staff told the board that contractors encountered underground utilities—including a sewer line that needed relocation—which delayed outfield and fence work. "They're a little bit delayed, because of the process...they had to deal with the electrical structure underneath on the ground, and they had to relocate," a district representative said.
Staff said the softball field was ready but the baseball field work was ongoing; because of weather and utility relocations some teams have practiced at city parks or limited activities to infield drills until fences and turf are complete. Trustees asked staff to monitor contractor schedules and ensure coaches keep students away from unfinished areas until work is secured.
