Public commenter urges Weslaco ISD board to release investigation records, alleges payroll irregularity

Vienna Garza told the Weslaco ISD board during public comment that she has documentation tied to a board-member misconduct investigation and asked trustees to help her obtain the district's investigative records. Garza said she had requested a Public Information Request (PIR) in December and urged the board to make the reports available to the community.
"You hired 2 law firms, paid communities tax dollars for that investigation," Garza said, arguing the public has a right to see the findings and that the board should help citizens access PIR records. She also alleged that "one of your family members was demoted several years ago" and that the individual continued to receive compensation for a title they no longer held; Garza asked the board to investigate pay adjustments or restitution if appropriate.
Board members did not debate the merits of Garza's assertions during the public-comment period; the presiding officer reminded the audience of limits under the Texas Open Meetings Act and noted the board may not deliberate on topics not posted on the agenda. Garza asked staff and trustees to assist with the PIR process and said she would provide documentation to support her statements.
