Waco ISD honors students advancing to state contests in academics, theater and athletics

Trustees celebrated student achievements across athletics, academics and the arts during the recognition portion of the meeting. Staff highlighted Waco High and University High students chosen to present at the CASB student voice conference, multiple powerlifting competitors who reached state meets, SkillsUSA medalists, Texas Science and Engineering Fair honorees, and UIL theatrical design qualifiers.
Staff named several students: from Waco High, Jocelyn Austin and Isaiah Pullen; University High team members including Ozmar Cazares Guhan and Luke Courtney; powerlifting competitors Shania Smith and Dwayne Simmons Jr.; SkillsUSA participants Anthony Moncrief and Jaden Vaughn; and UIL theatrical design qualifiers Josiah Gonzalez and Chris Contreras. Staff also thanked campus principals, coaches and instructors, including Waco High principal Joseph Alexander, University High principal Dr. Kenisha Johnson, and teachers who guided projects and competitions.
“From more than 1,200 Texas public school districts, only 16 were selected to present at the conference. Congratulations to these students,” a staff presenter said. Trustees joined staff in congratulating the students and invited group photos.
