Waco ISD reviews midyear reading data and teachers27 use of I-Ready pathways

Dr. Kornblum presented the board27s midyear reading-data update, walking trustees through I-Ready scale scores and how those map to grade bands and expected "typical" and "stretch" growth. He explained that the colored bubbles indicate percent of students who improved placement, met typical growth, or met stretch growth, and showed campus-level numbers (for example, AltaVista first graders at 394 versus the first-grade band start at 434). "So when you look at the first grade band at the bottom, it shows kinder. So 394 falls within the kindergarten band, but first grade starts at 434," he said.
Trustees asked whether typical growth equates to one academic year and about reliability and correlation with state assessment projections; Kornblum and staff said typical growth is conventionally a year and that I-Ready provides correlation charts to Texas assessments. Board members also probed whether the district has consistent implementation and supports for teachers; staff pointed to instructional specialists, PLCs and pathways in tiered interventions and described targeted work on campuses showing strong gains. "One of the things that I talked about in the state of the district was our organizational structure and support," Dr. Spicer added, noting district plans to tighten structures so that pockets of excellence extend systemwide.
