Waco ISD superintendent outlines listening findings, schedules final attendance-boundary hearing

Superintendent Dr. Spicer delivered a state-of-the-district report highlighting findings from an entry plan that included 48 campus tours and more than 90 stakeholder meetings. He said those listening sessions produced recurring themes — "behavior management and discipline, communication and collaboration, staff support and resources, school environment and safety, academic performance and our resources, community and family support." Dr. Spicer said the district will use the feedback to develop a strategic plan with the board and refine programs and processes.

Dr. Spicer also updated trustees on the attendance-boundaries committee27s work, saying an initial set of recommended maps has been drafted after four months of committee work and public engagement. He announced a final public hearing for the proposed maps on March 4 at 6 p.m. at GW Carver Middle School and said Spanish and sign-language interpreters will be available; communications staff will post a video of the presentation afterward for those who cannot attend. "We will be at GW Carver Middle School to provide a brief presentation and, again, speak with attendees to to collect their feedback," he said.

Trustees asked for follow-up on specific next steps and how public feedback will be incorporated; Dr. Spicer said staff will gather input from the March 4 hearing to share back with the committee on March 18. He framed the work as an ongoing, collaborative process and repeatedly emphasized the need for community participation: "To everyone within the sound of my voice, we need you. I cannot and will not do this work alone."
