Trustees approved the formation of a citizens attendance-boundary committee and discussed the parameters that will guide its work. Board members said the committee will include recommended parents, principals, administrators and community members and that the first meeting will be next week.
A trustee summarized the draft parameters the board asked staff to convert into a template: "Optimize space, natural boundaries and neighborhood unity, rivalry, efficiency and effectiveness, equity, feeder pattern alignment and balancing programming and funding." Trustees emphasized taking a five-year planning horizon so families are not moved frequently and said transportation and hazardous-route analysis will be coordinated with the district's transportation staff after initial boundary scenarios are drawn.
Staff said they would post materials from each committee meeting to accommodate members unable to attend and that the committee's recommendations will be brought to the board for later approval.
