Consultant reviews Waco ISD long-range facilities plan that informed the 2021 bond

Jared Stersinger, the presenter, told the Waco ISD board that the 2021 long-range facilities plan grew from an extended, community-driven process. "This really started in January '21, was real had a really deep engagement over 16 plus meetings, meeting with district administration, leadership within the district, but most importantly, the community," Stersinger said.
Stersinger described three guiding principles that drove the plan: facilities that support the district's vision for academic excellence and future flexibility; equity of program access across campuses; and maintenance to protect the community's investment. He said the process identified immediate priorities that ultimately formed the 2021 bond program and longer-term priorities for elementary and middle school planning.
On a chart comparing facility condition and educational suitability, Stersinger explained how campuses with more replacement needs score lower on the condition axis while instructional-space shortcomings affect the suitability axis. He said completed projects will move flagged campuses to stronger positions on that graph.
Trustees asked clarifying questions about specific campuses and the underlying scoring. When asked about construction issues at Tennyson, Stersinger said the district had reached substantial completion and that remaining items were on a punch list addressed through warranty requests.
Board members agreed to proceed to the next agenda item after the presentation and questions.
