Robert Myers, an attorney with McCray Law Firm, gave the board a multi-year review of delinquent tax-collection activity and recovery efforts.
"The district collected 98.32% of its taxes in the last current, school fiscal year," Myers said, showing five-year collection trends and explaining reasons for year-to-year anomalies. He told trustees the 2023 levy dropped after state homestead-exemption changes and rate compression, and he described steps the firm uses to work with taxpayers (first-class notices, bilingual outreach, payment plans).
Myers also described delinquent-collection outcomes: approximately 150 suits filed during the fiscal year and about 68 properties posted for tax sale (with only about 20 actually selling). He highlighted a taxable-value audit the firm filed with the state that recovered $1,500,000 in additional state aid for the district.
Why it matters: High collection rates support the district's revenue picture, but appraisal-district adjustments and refunds can create reporting noise. The board thanked Myers for long-term service and noted that he plans to retire; Connor Buchanan (co-presenter) will continue firm representation.
Bottom line: Trustees received detailed collections metrics and a description of outreach and enforcement practices that feed the district's revenue and state-aid calculations.
