Sweetwater ISD trustees hear two childcare proposals, table decision to research liability and costs

During the Aug. 11 meeting the board heard two proposals to operate a child-care facility at the former SISD Child Care Center but elected to delay action.
Mr. Spencer introduced applicants Josh and Nicole Hale (with daughter Kelly Smith) who presented one proposal; representatives Russ Petty and Melissa Howard spoke for Lone Star Learning Center and described their goals and ideas for operation. The board determined it needed additional information on liability and the district costs of allowing an outside business to operate on a campus and voted to table the item for further research. The transcript notes: "Following the presentations, the Board decided to table this item to be able to research the liability and expenses involved in allowing an outside business operate on one of our campuses."
No motion to approve an operator was made at the meeting and the item will return to the board when staff can provide the requested financial and liability analysis.
