WRCCISD approves ESL waiver for two teachers as staff report on program status

Gwen Gilliam, Director of Student Services, presented the district’s 2025–26 ESL report, covering how many students are enrolled, how many exited last year, teacher training through Region VII and Eduhero, and the certification requirements teachers must meet.
Gilliam explained two teachers new to ESL would not have the required ESL certification by the Nov. 1 state deadline and that the district will submit waivers for those teachers. The minutes record that Matt Eastwood moved to approve the ESL waiver for the two teachers, Iris Hammontree seconded, and the motion passed unanimously among trustees present.
