Wellington ISD trustees approve policies, District of Innovation renewal and new full-time teacher

Board President Cody Phillips called the Wellington Independent School District Board of Trustees to order at 7:31 p.m. Oct. 14 in the superintendent’s office. The board approved routine business and several formal motions, each passing unanimously 7-0.
The board approved minutes from its Sept. 8 regular meeting and approved changes to Board Policies FD(LOCAL), FM(LOCAL) and FNCE(LOCAL). Trustees also approved a proposed renewal of the District of Innovation Plan and a personnel action to hire Jessica Thomas, who was previously part‑time, as a full‑time teacher. "MOTION BY Alison Strickland, SECONDED BY Gene Pena to hire Jessica Thomas (previously parttime) as a full-time teacher. Motion carried 7-0," the minutes state.
Superintendent Kurt Ashmore used his report time to announce that Transportation Director Jody Guy has resigned effective Dec. 31 and to summarize a 3‑Year School Safety & Security Audit completed by Jeff Rogers with Region 16 Education Service Center. Ashmore also told trustees they must complete TASB Child Abuse Prevention training and reported operational items including three buses being repaired and an update on new gates.
The meeting included principal and athletic reports about enrollment, assessment schedules and upcoming events. No members of the public appeared during Open Forum. The board adjourned at 8:32 p.m.
