Superintendent highlights student summits, advisory input and recent legislative advocacy

Superintendent Dr. Spicer told the board the district hosted successful men’s and women’s empowerment summits attended by more than 300 students and many staff members, and thanked community partners including Baylor University and the Junior League of Waco for support.
She described attending the TASB governance camp with students and said Waco ISD students impressed lawmakers during a recent trip to Austin. "Those students that accompanied us truly made the impact," she said, adding that students spoke about the quality of education and the dedication of district educators. Trustees who attended the legislature trip echoed that student voices were persuasive and encouraged more advocacy at the state level.
Dr. Spicer also reported that student advisory committee feedback is informing a review of block scheduling; students from Waco High and University High provided input on possible schedule changes for the 2025–26 school year. Administration said it will meet with middle school advisory groups and return recommendations to principals as part of master-schedule planning.
Board members commended the student engagement and encouraged administration to continue soliciting student perspectives as the district considers scheduling and program options.
