Council members heard details about the city’s grease and industrial controls under the MS4 program. Sofia explained that restaurants must obtain oil-and-grease permits to operate and that inspectors look for grease traps and interceptors during visits. "So we have to do that oil and grease permits now... We have about 74 right now," Sofia said.
Morgan added that staff found and addressed one illicit discharge in April and that construction sites are inspected regularly, with no major violations reported during the year. Those program elements are part of the city’s minimum control measures for pollution prevention and good housekeeping, and staff said they will continue inspections and outreach under the next permit cycle.
