The Wink-Loving Independent School District board voted unanimously Jan. 6 to authorize Superintendent Scotty Carman to negotiate for the purchase of a 0.514-acre parcel at 515 North Wildcat Drive and to obtain appraiser, broker or title-company assistance as needed.
The board packet describes the property as a double-wide trailer with a two-car garage, two-vehicle carport, a fenced backyard and an RV hookup; the fence requires completion and the yard needs sodding. The legal description in the minutes reads "1556 B-5 PSL Sec 30 W/2 SE/4" and the parcel size is listed as 0.514 acres. "I move that the Board give the Superintendent authority to negotiate for the purchase of real property as discussed and to seek assistance of the services of a licensed appraiser, a licensed real estate broker or salesperson, and/or a title company should the Superintendent or his designee determine that such services will aid in obtaining the best price for the property as presented," Trustee Raymond Dodd said when making the motion; Trustee Jerome Dewberry seconded and the motion passed with a unanimous vote.
The minutes record the board's authorization to pursue the purchase and to seek professional services for valuation and closing assistance; they do not record an agreed purchase price, a seller identity, or a closing timeline. The administrative recommendation notes this is the only parcel in that immediate area the district does not already own, and staff were authorized to proceed with negotiations and any necessary due diligence.
