Council approves first reading of wide-ranging parking ordinance

On Jan. 20 the Borough Council approved Ordinance 2026‑01 on first reading, an extensive amendment and supplementation of Chapter 85 (Vehicles and Traffic) that updates street-by-street parking restrictions, resident-permit rules and hours for municipal lots. The first-reading motion passed by unanimous roll call (Ayes:7, Nays:0).
The ordinance as read includes Schedule I (No Parking), Schedule II (No Parking Certain Hours), the new Schedule VA for resident permit parking (including application requirements, a $10 annual application fee and placement rules for permits), and specific rules and fees for municipal lots (Lot #1–#6). The municipal overnight-permit fees listed in the ordinance are Lot #1: $18/month ($198 annually), Lot #3: $12/month ($132 annually), Lot #4: $15/month ($165 annually), and Lot #5: $12/month ($132 annually). The ordinance also spells out towing, suspension/revocation procedures, and enforcement by the borough police and code-enforcement staff.
Councilmember Chris Infinito said residents should review the ordinance and bring street-specific issues to the second reading so the ordinance can be improved: "If anyone here or listening, if they see any issues or streets not included to come to the second reading on February 17th, so that the ordinance can be the best possible ordinance." The ordinance text will remain in the public record and return for second reading and public hearing at a later meeting.
