Police commander honored; residents press for stop signs and park improvements

President Angelo "Skip" Saviano and Police Chief Andrew Hock recognized Administrative Commander Michael Kmiecik April 6 for 30 years of service to the Elmwood Park Police Department. Chief Hock praised Kmiecik for his "dignity and professionalism," and Commander Kmiecik said he "appreciated everyone on the board and the administration for their support during his career."
The meeting also included a brief public comment from resident Polly Grimes (7827 Elmgrove Drive), who asked the board to install stop signs at Elmgrove Park and to support improvements at Triangle Park. The remarks were heard during the meeting's public-comment portion; trustees did not take immediate action on the requests during the session but committee and staff follow-up was implied by the procedural reports and later agenda items.
President Saviano also administered oaths of office to new Firefighters Hector Vasquez and Anthony Zito, who began employment Dec. 22, 2025 and graduated from the Northeastern Illinois Public Safety Fire Department Training Academy March 6, 2026, the packet notes. Trustees welcomed the new firefighters and extended best wishes for their probationary training period.
