West Rusk reports reading and math mixed results; Jr. High math shows notable gains

Intermediate Principal Krystal Medford presented the district scorecard for elementary grades and explained how Renaissance Star interim assessments are being used to track progress. "Currently for 3rd and 5th grade students on grade level we are at 52% for reading and 46% in math," Medford said and described the district's targets and plans to re‑evaluate when STAAR results are available.
Jr. High Principal Lori Harris highlighted grade‑level variation and improvement strategies. She said reading rates dipped compared with last year but that many students are close to grade level and that seventh grade showed particular growth; in math she reported the district moved to 64% after targeted efforts compared with a previous figure near 40%. Harris said the school will continue data meetings and instructional leadership initiatives to maintain momentum.
