During board discussion, Trustee Martin Los Santos said a district employee had publicly alleged pervasive misconduct including favoritism, improper influence over promotions and other policy violations, and he urged the board to investigate and hold people accountable if the claims were factual.
"They stated that board members are protecting immediate family members and friends, influencing promotions, family members of board members are picking campus work assignments, family members of board members are having positions created," Trustee Los Santos recited during his remarks. He said the employee had called for an investigation and that the board had not acknowledged the outcry at the time it was made.
Superintendent Dr. Richard Rivera responded that the statements were "not true" and said he would follow up: "Whoever said that, we'll go back and follow-up ... I'll make a report next month on what happened, and we'll bring [it] closer to that." The board agreed administration will check the record, contact the employee and provide a report at the next meeting.
