External auditors give Weslaco ISD an unmodified opinion for FY2024

An external audit team representing the district presented the annual comprehensive financial report for the 12-month period ending June 30, 2024, and issued an unmodified opinion on the district's basic financial statements.
"In our opinion, the district's basic financial statements present fairly in all material respects the respective financial position of the district as of 06/30/2024," auditor Esmeralda Iniguez said. The presentation summarized major accounting totals, noting total governmental assets and liabilities and highlighting that unassigned general-fund balance represented about four months of expenditures.
The auditors also reported federal awards expenditures of about $58,100,000 and identified Title I ($8.9M), ESSER III ($26.2M) and 21st Century Community Learning Centers (just under $2M) as major programs tested in the single-audit. The board moved and approved acceptance of the annual comprehensive financial report.
