Resident complaint prompts Ridgefield Park Rec Board to review Holiday Display judging process

The Ridgefield Park Board of Recreation on Jan. 15 responded to an emailed complaint about the Holiday Display Contest, saying it appreciated the feedback and that it will review the judging process for next year. The complainant alleged some residents could vote repeatedly and questioned whether professionally decorated homes should be allowed to compete.
According to the minutes, "This resident felt people could vote endlessly for their own house and erroneously thought the winning totals were in the order of the post." The board explained that members personally viewed homes and that the community-judging approach required each voter to select three entries to limit repeat voting. The board also said it can detect repeated voting and will examine process adjustments ahead of next year’s contest.
Voting produced 166 votes; the minutes list winners (119 Brinkerhoff; 23 Sixth Street; 87 Union Place; 201 Overpeck Avenue; 182 Preston Street; business winner 286 Teaneck Road) and five honorable mentions. The board encouraged the complainant to provide a name and address so staff could follow up but reported no further contact.
