The Ridgefield Park Board of Recreation on Jan. 15 reported that its annual Wish Tree program this year included grocery gift cards for every family in addition to individual gifts for children, broadening financial support for participants. The board said collaboration with town and civic organizations made the expanded assistance possible.
The minutes state that "we were fortunate to collaborate with several town and civic organizations, which allowed each family to receive a grocery gift card in addition to individual gifts for the children." Board members also credited the Masons, who provided $50 Walmart gift cards to 42 children and supported a Breakfast with Santa. The board said volunteer deliveries and school drop-offs helped the program run smoothly.
Board members said they will meet with the superintendent of schools to refine next year's distribution process and reduce the risk that children are missed during handoffs. The board urged residents to volunteer and noted it had sent meeting information to a batch of new volunteer applicants.
