The Wink-Loving ISD Board of Trustees approved the 2026–27 school calendar at its Feb. 12 meeting, after administrators explained the district must account for HB 2610’s change to a minutes-based requirement for instructional time.
Superintendent and administrative staff explained that HB 2610 amends the Texas Education Code by replacing the prior 180-day requirement with a requirement to provide at least 75,600 minutes of instruction (including intermissions such as lunch and recess). Trustee Chad Evans moved to approve the proposed calendar and Trustee Carrie Purcell seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Board discussion noted a need to adjust a couple of early-release days after finalizing spring events; administrators said teacher input had been solicited and the calendar had been reviewed by the district site-based committee. The board directed staff to finalize minor date adjustments over the summer, with the calendar adopted as presented.
The board’s action ensures district scheduling aligns with the state’s minutes-based requirement for 2026–27.
