Wink-Loving ISD trustees voted unanimously Feb. 12 to formalize an earlier MacBook Air replacement schedule aimed at avoiding supply-chain delays and rising repair costs.
Technology Director Mike Dawkins presented the proposal, detailing current device vintages and repair-cost concerns for older laptops. He recommended purchasing M4 MacBook Air models and noted the district’s estimate of "35 New laptops with 4y Applecare (no service fees) - $41,525.75." Trustee Melissa Halterman moved to approve the schedule "as presented," and Trustee Chad Evans seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Dawkins told the board that screen repairs on existing devices have become more expensive—citing third-party and Apple repair price differences—and that AppleCare is available only within 60 days of purchase for some past devices. The presentation included specific model and pricing options for the board to consider, alongside trade-offs about warranty coverage and potential timing challenges if the new MacBook generation has constrained initial supply.
Board members approved the replacement schedule and process, instructing administration to proceed with procurement per the presented plan.
