County Office of Education reports summer CTE, hires and IEP continuity at Hillcrest Court School

Dr. Jesus Jimenez, the newly introduced director of school programs for the County Office of Education, reported on summer programming and staffing for court-connected schools. He said the second extended-school-year session concluded on July 24, with 13 students participating in a CTE master class; staff return on Aug. 12 and the next school year starts Aug. 17. Jimenez also announced five new hires, a new principal, and a literacy and assessment coordinator to address early literacy gaps.
Jimenez described systems for special education continuity: educational records are reviewed on intake, the district-to-court-school record transfer process is used, a 30-day IEP window is observed for placement changes, and an exit IEP meeting is scheduled before students return to their home districts. "Part of the process when the students arrive to the institution is to review their educational records from the previous district... there is a 30 day IEP," Jimenez said. Commissioners asked about multilingual learner accommodations and were told curriculum and paraeducator support are provided in students' primary languages.
