Probation staff presented June operational metrics and described outreach and reentry services at the July 28 joint commission meeting. Assistant Superintendent Carmen Ramirez reported 15 bookings and 20 releases for June, YSC predisposition counts of 21 and post-disposition of 6, demographic breakdowns, and an average YSC length of stay of 62 days. Probation emphasized a renewed focus on reentry services alongside SecureTrack programming.
"We made 16 assignments on total," Ron Reyes of the private defender program reported earlier when summarizing court-related workload trends, which probation staff said they view in context with YSC and SecureTrack counts.
Commissioners questioned how the probation outreach vans operate. Assistant Deputy Chief Margarita Ochoa said the vans serve both juvenile and adult clients and that deployments are planned in advance with locations, dates and staffing communicated internally to probation officers. "So we plan ahead, have days ahead of time, locations, staffing, probation officers that will be there with resources," Ochoa said, adding the department operates two vans and asks partners to coordinate parking and permissions for locations such as Samaritan House. Commissioners requested a public schedule or a direct contact for coordinating youth transportation; probation advised contacting the youth's probation officer to confirm van dates and locations so officers can connect families with services.
