Tatum ISD trustees approved amendments to the district’s District of Innovation (DOI) plan during their Aug. 25 special meeting after reviewing effects of the recent legislative session.
Assistant Superintendent Drenon Fite Jr. told the board that, stemming from the legislative session, Chapter 37 exemptions of the Texas Education Code were removed from the DOI (referencing HB 6). Fite said the district is recommending an exemption from SB 12’s requirement to post instructional materials on the district website; under the recommendation, the district will provide instructional materials to parents upon request. The discussion also addressed a proposed change to the grievance policy to grant more time to file a grievance, but the district indicated it would maintain the current timeline.
Trustee Kip Amick moved to approve the DOI amendments; Trustee Dennis Williams seconded the motion. The motion passed 7–0.
Board minutes show the actions were presented as amendments to the existing DOI plan rather than creation of a new plan. The district attorney and administration will proceed with implementing the changes as authorized by the board.
