The Tatum Independent School District Board of Trustees approved an amendment to the district's District of Innovation (DOI) plan on Oct. 6 to clarify that librarians will oversee selection of library materials.
Assistant Superintendent Drenon Fite Jr. told trustees the district believes "the librarians are qualified to oversee the selection of library books as they work in this area daily rather than this being a responsibility of the Board." Following that presentation, Mr. Curt Smith moved to approve the DOI amendment and Mr. Stephen Skinner seconded; the motion passed 7-0.
The amendment transfers selection authority operationally to school librarians; the transcript does not record changes to appeal or review processes, or whether any external review will be required. Trustees approved the change at the meeting.
