Provo council discusses ADUs and housing shortfall for larger families

She described ADUs as a tool for owners who no longer need all the space to rent out portions of their homes, but acknowledged neighborhood concerns about renters and said the council is tracking illegal ADU occurrences and the fact that more than 60% of the city allows ADUs.
Councilors linked housing constraints to local employers and said they want to retain families and jobs by increasing family-sized housing options. No regulatory changes were adopted at the joint meeting; the council indicated further work and community engagement will continue.
