Granite to study proficiency-based learning with principals, families and students

Dr. Mitch Nerdin, Granite School District chief of staff, reported that the district has held several meetings with high school principals and is planning a study to gather feedback from parents, teachers and students about proficiency-based learning (PBL) practices.
Nerdin said principals are engaged and that the effort will focus on consistency in grading, clear content-specific expectations around retakes and homework, and how practices support college readiness. He cautioned that "This will not be a quick process as we want to gather data and make informed decisions," and emphasized that the district intends to collect evidence before proposing major changes.
