Council hears first reading to raise municipal gas-use tax; staff estimates $1.80 monthly impact

At the Jan. 5 meeting City Manager Michael Dzugan presented a first reading of an ordinance to increase the municipal gas-use tax from $0.03 to $0.05 per therm. He told the council staff used several employee bills to estimate the household impact.
Dzugan said, based on sample bills, the average household would see an increase of about $1.80 per month if the tax change is adopted. The item was introduced at first reading only; no final vote was recorded on Jan. 5.
