Court leadership told members they have been in discussions with Baptist Health about the hospital lease, which the presiding officer said is set to expire in 2028. County staff and Baptist Health have discussed negotiating adjustments to the lease, potential short extensions, and necessary upgrades to parts of the facility. Commissioners were invited to tour the hospital to assess condition and needs.
"That lease is coming up in 2028," the presiding officer said. A member of the public asked whether hospital lease proceeds go into the county general fund; the presiding officer replied that they do. The presiding officer said Baptist Health has raised concerns about current lease terms and that talks could include phased negotiations or a short extension to allow time for upgrades and negotiations. The court did not adopt any change to the lease at the meeting; staff were directed to continue talks and arrange a tour for interested court members.
