The Palos Heights City Council declined to move forward on a proposed automotive service center at 6350 W. 135th Street after a 2–5 roll-call vote. Alderman Pat Scully moved to direct the City Attorney to draft an ordinance allowing the special use and Alderman Brent Lewandowski seconded; the minutes show two affirmative votes (McGrogan, Lewandowski) and five negative votes (Key, Scully, Clifford, Brennan, Basso), and "With five (5) nay votes the motion did not carry."
The proposal had been the focus of several public comments. Rash Darwish of the Arab American Business Association spoke in support of local small business development. A resident, Ryan Carberry, said he opposed the proposed auto shop citing concerns about "noise, pollution and safety." Owner Nuer Alshaikh told the council she and her husband had met with the ZBA and committees, addressed concerns and provided a recording that "the sound within the building does not travel outside the building," and said she has solutions to the issues. After the failed motion the mayor directed Mrs. Alshaikh to speak with city staff (Amy Ingalls) about alternative business options for the site.
