Valley View ISD honors fall sports, approves student trips including Mariachi invitation to Carnegie Hall

Trustees recognized fall sports teams from secondary campuses and congratulated coaches and student athletes during the Dec. 8 meeting.
Manuel Rodriguez, identified in the minutes as Interim Athletics Director and Fine Arts Director, introduced coaches and noted that volleyball recognition would follow in January. The Board also approved student travel requests on the consent agenda, including VVHS Varsity Boys Soccer to the CFISD showcase in Cypress, the VVHS Mariachi invited to perform at Carnegie Hall (June 9, 2025), the VVHS Congress team trip to UIL State in Austin (Jan. 6–8, 2026), and the UIL Robotics team to the Best of Texas State Competition in Dallas (Dec. 10–13, 2025). Rodriguez said the Carnegie Hall performance was by invitation and selection: "only selected groups were chosen and invited by the sponsors... Valley View was one of them," and trustees congratulated staff for the accomplishment.
Trustee Mario Degollado asked for more information about the Mariachi selection process and staff provided a brief explanation of selection criteria and sponsor invitations. The consent agenda that included these trips passed unanimously among trustees present.
