The Valley View ISD Board unanimously approved TASB Localized Policy Manual Update 126 at its Dec. 8 meeting after a presentation by HR Director Aaron Larraga.
Larraga highlighted key changes: established response timelines for grievance procedures (Level 1 and 2 responses set at 20 days; the Board will hear Level 3 within 60 days and has 30 days to respond), a change expanding the misconduct requirement from "educators" to "district employees," a reduction in required reporting time for child abuse investigations from 48 to 24 hours, and new language addressing use of artificial intelligence in instructional settings. Larraga also said the service includes a number of revisions across board, personnel, student welfare and instructional policy sections.
Trustees discussed the language related to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI); Larraga summarized that certain DEI content could be restricted under the proposed local language and that those provisions could affect contract renewals. The Board approved the recommended changes as presented and the motion carried with five votes in favor and two trustees absent.
