The minutes note, "Current district practice covers up to 18 college credits per student, but concerns were raised about students exceeding that limit through advanced programming opportunities." Committee members agreed to add language clarifying that the 18-credit limitation does not necessarily apply in the same way to separate Gifted and Talented programming and to consider requiring district administrator approval for credits beyond the cap.
Committee members also referenced a student acceptance to MIT as an example that illustrated the financial and liability questions that can arise when exceptional students pursue extensive college coursework while still enrolled in district programs. Administrators will draft proposed language to address caps, approval processes and potential financial protections for the district.
