Policy committee backs streamlined gifted-and-talented policy and better family access

The minutes state that committee members "preferred using Sample Policy 1 while removing sections 6 and 7, and possibly additional duplicated language." Committee members discussed making the district Gifted and Talented Plan more accessible to families by including or referencing it in the Student Handbook; the minutes note the plan had previously been distributed electronically.
Members emphasized clarifying the identification and evaluation process so parents better understand how students are referred, evaluated and served. Administrators will incorporate district-specific language and work with staff to align the plan and handbook before the committee’s next meeting.
The committee did not take a final vote on the policy text at this meeting; staff were directed to produce a revised draft for further review at an upcoming meeting.
