The Board approved a package of local policy updates Aug. 4 to align district policy with legislation from the 89th Texas Legislature.
Jason Valentine presented three policy updates: FNCE (LOCAL), aligned with HB 1481, which the minutes describe as prohibiting student cell phone use on campus; FD (LOCAL), which clarifies UIL participation eligibility for private and homeschool students and confirms WISD will allow participation for students residing within district boundaries but will not expand participation to those living outside the district; and EFB (LOCAL), updated to comply with SB 13 by establishing a process for recommending and procuring library materials that requires public access to proposed materials before Board approval and replacing the term "Reconsideration" with "Challenge." The minutes record a motion to approve the Local Policy Updates FNCE, FD and EFB, made by Trustee Ken Strange and seconded by Trustee Andrea Justus; the motion passed unanimously (Yea: 7, Nay: 0).
The updates were presented as required by recent legislation and are recorded in the minutes as adopted; the minutes do not include additional procedural amendments or implementation timelines beyond the required policy language changes.
