Superintendent Carmen Rubner presented three draft school calendars — traditional, year-round (balanced) and a four-day week — and the board discussed potential impacts on students, staff and families.
Board members raised concerns about student meal access and childcare on off-days, compliance with grants that require at least 175 instructional days (the four-day draft currently has 153), transportation and maintaining extracurricular schedules such as UIL events. Rubner said DWEIC (the district committee) will review and make a recommendation; the board expects the recommendation to return before March for formal action.
