Ruben Armendariz briefed the board on maintenance and transportation status on Feb. 18, reporting that the maintenance budget is 34% used and transportation 18.5% used to date, with 956 maintenance and 263 transportation work requests completed since June 1.
Armendariz told trustees the bus fleet is aging—six buses dating to 2010 remain in service—and parts delays frequently require long, out‑of‑town repairs in Midland or Odessa. He said the district is upgrading its monitoring system with AI tools and plans to add dash cameras and 360° coverage, and that repeat motorist violations of school bus stops are reported for enforcement.
Project updates include near‑completion of a shade structure at the elementary campus, six apartment renovations pending completion, purchased padding for high school gym corners awaiting installation, and an in‑house effort to replace older R22 HVAC units on campus.
No board action was required; repairs, camera installation and project scheduling will proceed under the maintenance and transportation departments.
