Sharon Hernandez, the district Grants and Funding Director, presented the required annual Title I and Title III update to the board, describing allowable uses for Title I funds — tutoring, family engagement, technology, books, trips, salaries and professional development — and the district's compliance process using the District and Campus Improvement Plans.
Hernandez outlined parent and family engagement requirements, noting advisory councils at campus and district levels, ParentSquare and surveys for annual evaluation. On Title III she described supports for English learners including adult ESL, TELPAS support and bilingual family events; a community fair is planned for April. Hernandez also noted FAFSA outreach efforts and said staff observed low parent turnout despite outreach; she said approximately "maybe 20" seniors still need FAFSA completion and that the exact count should be verified.
