Austin, a trustee, presented preliminary "ideal state" designs for a combined middle-school/high-school master facilities plan and told the board the plan carries a substantial price tag. "Estimated cost from HSR if started in 2028: $39 million," the presentation stated.
The plan lists specific facility changes the board would consider, including expansions to technical education, music/choir, PLTW and media spaces; a new agriculture area; removal of an unsecured back door; building-wide air conditioning; a wrestling/multipurpose room; and a community-accessible weight and fitness room. The proposal also envisions a new entrance for events, an on-site MP store for concessions and merchandise, and shifting all high-school level classes to the high-school building.
Board members asked for more evidence supporting each costly feature before committing. The trustees requested that the administration provide data and written justification for each major component and to survey the community for input on priorities and acceptable tradeoffs. No formal vote was taken; the board recorded the request as the next step and signaled that additional analysis will precede any funding decision.
