Seawall report urges immediate replacement of Belle Isle seawall; council weighs budget impact

Reifler said the estimate for that wall is roughly $300,000 and described structural concerns: horizontal cracking below the water line and possible slab toe failures that could cause sections to slide out.
Council members discussed sequencing the work and funding. Reifler said he would include seawall bids in the capital plan and recommended bidding the three worst walls to see whether scope or per-foot pricing reduced costs. Vice Mayor Roberts and other members urged staff to consider alternative materials and alternate bids to compare lifecycle costs and durability before final contract awards.
