Provo rolls out district data dashboard and reports growth in early reading and math

Superintendent Wendy Dowell demonstrated a new, district-built data dashboard the board plans to use to centralize assessment, attendance and financial information. Dowell said the dashboard is live and will allow principals and teachers role-based drilldowns; board members will see school- and district-level views but not cross-school student-level data.

Dowell highlighted assessment results: "76 percent of our students in grades 1 through 3 made expected or accelerated reading progress. That is a 3 percent increase over 2025," she said. She told the board that 55 percent of kindergartners who were below or well below benchmark made sufficient progress to move beyond that risk category and that seven of 13 schools have already exceeded the target tied to Senate Bill 241. Dowell also pointed to substantial gains on an elementary progress measure (from roughly 50.5% to 75.8% on a district metric), particularly in early-grade math.

The dashboard will include Acadience reading and math distributions, NWEA growth quadrants and RISE proficiency breakdowns; Dowell said staff will add attendance and financial tiles and implement permissions so principals can drill to individual students at their schools while protecting student privacy across sites. Board members asked how parents access assessment data; Dowell said parents can use existing parent accounts (Empower) to view student assessments and that the district will clarify permissions and training as rollout proceeds.
