Marquette County Conservation District asks county for $75,000 in annual operating support

Jeff Chiodi, chair of the Marquette County Conservation District, urged the board to consider $75,000 in annual operating support to maintain staff capacity and sustain grant administration for conservation services.
"To ensure the District remains a strong, reliable partner for Marquette County, we respectfully request $75,000 in annual operating support beginning in FY2027," Chiodi said. He described that while most conservation projects are grant-funded, essential administrative capacity is supported by limited operational resources; additional county support would help the district continue assisting landowners, schools, and municipalities and leverage outside funds.
Chairperson Derocha requested a copy of the district budget; Chiodi said the MCCD will vote on its budget in August and then share it with the county. Commissioners did not take an immediate action on the request during the meeting and asked staff and civil counsel to review budget and next-step options.
