County approves $47,149 in CDBG funds for emergency home repairs

"The County of Marquette proposes to use $47,149 in CDBG funds to assist residents whose income is under 80% of the area median income for emergency housing repairs," Marquette County Planner Amy Stephens explained during the public hearing. Stephens described the program as administered by the Planning Division, first-come, first-served, with urgency and circumstances weighed when prioritizing requests; she said she would research how much funding would be needed to address the full backlog.
The board voted to approve the Emergency Housing Program and authorize expenditures of $47,149 (motion by Comm. Benzie; second Comm. Alholm). The roll call vote was 6-0 in favor. Stephens reviewed prior CDBG funding levels for the county in recent years as context.
