Presidio ISD bilingual/ESL self-assessment finds mixed results; district to expand parent engagement

District staff presented the TEA-required bilingual/ESL evaluation and student outcome data on Nov. 19. Hevila Ramos reported 769 emergent bilingual students districtwide (PES 316, LRFMS 199, PHS 254); the district has 12 certified bilingual teachers and 14 with supplemental ESL certification. STAAR/EOC passing rates and TELPAS band distributions by grade were provided in the report.
The district scored Developing in Domain 1 (Program Implementation) and Domain 2 (Student Outcomes) and Proficient in Domain 3 (Parent Engagement). The board record says the district will implement targeted strategies at each campus based on needs, including a parent survey and creation of a parent involvement committee specific to bilingual families (inclusive of LPAC members). No new staffing or budget allocations were approved at this meeting.
