May beach survey: 55% of 2021 sand remains; limited scarping under observation

The consultant's survey estimated that about 55% of the sand placed in the 2021 renourishment project remains within project limits and that scarping that developed around Seadunes, Piper Dunes and toward Beachwalker is breaking up and slowly resolving; staff did not recommend immediate remedial work because permitting lead times and contracting could outlast the natural recovery (S4).
The board discussed ongoing monitoring, turtle-patrol reporting and coordination with the state park and DEP. "We don't necessarily have long runs of scarps," staff said, noting that if scarps persist or pose hazards staff will seek contractors, but for now the recommendation is continued monitoring and documentation for FEMA and permitting purposes.
