Board warned purchase will deplete transportation account temporarily; staff expects depreciation to rebuild funds
Summary
Board members were told the acquisition would reduce the transportation account to zero in the short term but that depreciation would restore roughly $100,000 by year-end; members pressed staff on options to sell or trade the district's existing cruiser.

Board members and staff discussed the budgetary and operational consequences of the approved bus purchase. Staff warned that buying the in-stock cruiser would leave the district’s transportation account at zero immediately but said depreciation would replenish the fund to approximately $100,000 by the end of the year. "our bus account transportation will be at 0 for the time being, but by the end of the year with depreciation, we'll be right at a 100,000 again," the staff member said.
Members also raised concerns about disposing of the district's current cruiser. Staff and members agreed that the vendor would not accept the cruiser on trade; board members estimated private resale value at roughly $5,000 to $8,000 if a buyer can be found. The amended motion requires staff to secure a sale or trade arrangement before finalizing the acquisition and to report back to the board on disposition plans.
