The Reagan County Independent School District Board of Trustees voted Aug. 11 to set the 2025–26 tax rate at $0.7462 for maintenance and operation and $0.14 for the payment of principal and interest on debts.
The ordinance to set the tax rate passed unanimously with two trustees absent. The board also approved the district tax roll and voted to eliminate early‑pay discounts 1, 2 and 3 for the 2025–26 year. In the same action the board approved a General Homestead Exemption of 20% and Over‑65 and Disability Exemptions of 20% plus a $10,000 exemption.
Board minutes record the motion to adopt the tax ordinance was made by Jose Yanez and seconded by Billy Hodge; the motion carried unanimously. The minutes do not record individual roll‑call votes beyond the notation that motions carried unanimously and that two trustees were absent.
The tax rate decision follows routine annual budget and tax‑roll procedures; the board scheduled its next regular meeting for Sept. 8, 2025. Questions about how the new exemptions will affect individual tax bills should be directed to the district tax office; the board approved Cynthia Aguilar as the district’s Tax Collector at the same meeting.
